Dhurkot- 25October(Rakesh Jethi)- Krishi Vigyan Kendra Barnala of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana Organised a Travelling Seminar on Crop Residue Management at village Dhurkot district Barnala. Dr.Rajbir Singh Deputy Director General(Agr.icultural Extension), ICAR , GOI, New Delhi grace the occasion as chief guest and Dr. Parvender Sheoran, Director, ICAR- ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana was as special guest on this occasion. Dr. Rajbir Singh said that a number of machinery are being provided to the farmers on subsidy to manage the paddy straw.

Now the responsibility is of the farmers to utilise these machines for their full capacity to manage the crop residue and motivated the farmers to incorporate the parali in their fields and for not burning the parali. He interacted with the farmers and took their feedback and suggestions for proper management of paddy straw for policy implications. He also added that Punjab produced around 25-30 MT parali per year and by burning to this we are losing a huge quantity of nutrients, which are very useful for soil fertility. He said that parali can also be a source of income generation. Dr.Parvender Sheoran said that 22 KVKs in Punjab is implementing In- situ crop residue Management project and laid out demonstrations at farmers field by use different types of Machinery, creating awareness among farmers and the other stack holders for proper management of paddy straw.

During the seminar live demonstration were carried out by sowing wheat by Happy Seeder Smart Seeder and supper seeder. Dr.Suryendra Singh, AP( Agronomy), Dr.Anjuly Sharma, AP (Home Science),Mr.Pardeep Kumar, Farm Manager KVK, Barnala.Dr. Ajay Godara , AP( Animal Science) and Dr.Tejpal Singh AP ( Vegetable Science) another scientist from KVK, Mansa were present. The progressive farmers from village Dhurkot and nearby villages were participated in this programme. The farmers assured the DDG( Ag.Ext.) for not burning the paddy straw.
